The notable beginning moment of blood used in this manner is the Passover.
This is an act of justice, in retribution for the lives Pharaoh had taken, and an act of power, in opposition to the power Pharaoh thought that he had and an act of compassion, for His people who had been enslaved.
These four cups of wine represent the four promises God makes to the people of Israel.
CUP 1: I will bring you out… (SANCTIFICATION)
Whatever sin-filled bondage you are living in, God wants to bring you out
CUP 2: I will deliver you from… (DELIVERANCE)
God wants to deliver you from your sin.
CUP 3: I will redeem you with… (REDEMPTION)
